Island Patient Respite Program
Vineyard Havens is delighted to offer an all-expenses-paid vacation anywhere in the U.S. for a local, year-round Martha’s Vineyard resident facing cancer.
Soon after our very first summer, Program Director Caitlin Burbidge had a dream.
After witnessing the transformation cancer patients experienced through our respite program, she envisioned that - someday - we could offer the same gift of respite to island patients.
“I know that cancer is everywhere and respite during a cancer journey is too important not to share with more people. But, as a year-round island resident, I know that many of us can’t afford time away. My dream has always been to see our organization raise enough money to share the gift of respite with island patients, too.”
That day is finally here.
The Vineyard Havens Island Patient Respite Program is for year-round, island residents who are currently receiving treatment for cancer and are unable to afford time away using their own financial resources.
Vineyard Havens will gift a vacation for two anywhere in the United States to one qualified patient in 2025. We will work with the patient to design a bespoke vacation that meets their dreams and needs.
Don’t want to travel off island? We will plan a staycation in a home that will comfortably acommodate close family and friends where everyone can be together and enjoy the island in a whole new way.
Timeline and Important Dates:
April 15, 2025 - Last day to submit the Island Patient Respite Information Form (below).
May 15, 2025 - Patient will be notified.
November 1, 2025 - Travel and/or staycation on island should be completed.
Please note all patients will be eligible for our Mini-Respite Day Program which will include all-expenses paid pampering and fun for 5-10 island patients beginning in the fall. Activities may include:
Mani/pedi/massage
Shopping and lunch
Half-day fishing trip
